Caring for Pregnant Young Women at the Nest

By Natalia Martinez

(Natalia Martinez is a LAM missionary who works in Armenia, Colombia. She is privileged to relate to about 20 young women at a time. El Nido, The Nest, is a program focusing on these expectant mothers’ physical, spiritual, emotional, and relational needs.)

I want to share that our work at El Nido continues firmly. We started the year working with eight girls and their babies. On March 27th, we had a small meeting in a chalet that someone lent us to celebrate each baby’s first year of life. It was a very nice time because, in addition to the celebration, the girls could experience a special day that, unfortunately, due to their limited resources, they could not easily have had.

I would also like to tell you that soon, we will be receiving a new group of pregnant teenagers, and the situations that each of them experiences are extremely difficult. There are several cases of mothers in drug addiction and prostitution.

Especially there is a girl who, since she was thirteen, has worked in prostitution because her sisters do the same. This led her to consume drugs and live in environments that were not appropriate. Her pregnancy has allowed her to leave this life behind, and although it is not the best way, we hope that this baby will bring new hope into her life.

With much love today, I would like to ask for your prayers for the following needs:

Please join us in prayer for these young people, especially for the problematic situations each one faces.

We are applying for various grants to ensure the project’s continued operation, so we appreciate your prayers that God will open doors and provide the necessary resources.
