Our Daily Bread

by Chris Ferris, Executive Director

Jesus taught His disciples to pray “give us each day our daily bread” (Luke 11 and Matthew 6). Bread was a powerful symbol of God’s provision for His people in the Old Testament. We remember how God cared for and sustained the Israelite people in the wilderness after their exodus from Egypt. These seven simple words continue to have a powerful meaning for each of us personally and for Latin America Mission as a ministry. We know that we can rely on God to provide the resources that we need to sustain us here and now.  We don’t know what the future will bring but we can put our trust in a loving Father who will provide for us and sustain us.

Jesus teaches us to petition God for what we need - not for what we want or what we think we deserve - but for our basic needs to get through today.  Jesus instructs us to rely on God each and every day.  We don’t just rely on God for our physical needs but also for our spiritual needs.  Lord, give us each day a new sense of hope.  Lord, give us each day more grace towards others. Lord, give us each day wisdom and guidance. Lord, give us each day more self-control.

Please join me in praying for Latin America Mission to have the resources we need to support over 60 missionaries working in over 10 countries.  I will be hosting an online time of prayer at the start of each week on Mondays as we pray through the Latin America Mission monthly prayer guide. We know that the harvest is plentiful, but the workers are few.  Lord, give us more people who will join us for the harvest. Lord, give us the resources we need for each missionary to have a greater Kingdom impact in the areas where they are serving.  Lord, give us patience as we wait upon you to provide for our needs.

Our Father has invited us to go to Him and ask Him for our daily bread. He will not fail to provide it. Let us respond to this invitation by trusting him more and more each day as we pray - Lord, give us each day our daily bread. Amen.

In His Service,

Chris Ferris
