More Missionary Visits
Just a 6-day trip to Mexico City - my first time to Mexico! I went to visit Gwen and her husband, Abraham. Gwen teaches in a small private Christian school in the Gral Anaya area of Mexico City. The school is under new leadership that is changing the focus of the school and creating some difficulty for Gwen. We drove together to see Tracey and John who live on the northeast edge of the city in the largest housing development in Latin America, los Héroes de Tecámac. Every attached house is 3 metres wide. I'm not sure I've seen anything quite like it! The designers have included green spaces and play areas, but it's a lot of concrete in the very hot sun. Tracey and John are church planters, evangelists and disciplers. You will see one of their churches below.

North to South AND South to North
This year we had lots of missionaries come north to visit their supporting churches and their families. So, we made the most of their visit and planned our first LAM annual summer picnic - which was the only rainy day of the summer! We moved indoors at the kind invitation of Heron Park Baptist Church. They included people from the LAM clan, those who could come - a mixture of board members, volunteers, staff and visiting missionaries. Hosting our visiting missionaries in our home is a favourite perk of my job! Over the course of the spring and summer, we had Jake and Leidy, Helen and Daniel, Dan and 2 of his boys, and Dave and Esther all come to our home, we even managed to get Jake and Leidy and their son Oliver into a canoe despite thundery skies.

Amanda - my new teammate!
I am extremely grateful to have Amanda join me working in member care. She will also take the short-term coordinator part of my role which she will be able to develop further. Amanda, her husband Craig, and their son Sam, moved up to Canada after living and working in Bolivia for 12 years. Craig pastored the international church in Santa Cruz and Amanda was the short-term coordinator for Latin Link. Amanda is originally from Canada and Craig is from Scotland. Craig is the new pastor for the First Lobo Baptist Church in London.

Upcoming events

  • Annual Interviews - I am now at the beginning of annual interview season. I allow 4-6 hours with each person, plus time to prepare and write reports afterward, so it is the main activity this season. Hopefully with Amanda helping me, it will be less intense!

  • Safeguarding - At the end of the summer we ran a zoom workshop with Plan to Protect, so we can all learn more about abuse prevention in our ministries and in our agency. We will be working on finalising that policy in the coming months.
