Surviving the Storm
By Rommel and Ana Julia Raudales in Nicaragua
There is no doubt that the storms of life are creating a lot of doubt, discomfort, and fear amongst many in the evangelical world, just as when the disciples found themselves caught in a violent storm while on a boat. Jesus was there with them having a nap. The Gospel of Mark says:
“A furious squall came up, and the waves broke over the boat, so that it was nearly swamped. Jesus was in the stern, sleeping on a cushion. The disciples woke him and said to him, “Teacher, don’t you care if we drown?” He got up, rebuked the wind and said to the waves, “Quiet! Be still!” Then the wind died down and it was completely calm. He said to his disciples, “Why are you so afraid? Do you still have no faith?” The disciples were terrified and asked each other, “Who is this? Even the wind and the waves obey him!” Mark 4: 37-41
Partners and friends, have I been fearful? No. Doubtful? One thing that has helped us weather the storms of life, remaining calm, is ensuring that everything we do in relation to the authorities is submitted on time and with quick adaptation. These are God's promises: Give Caesar what belongs to Caesar, and give to God what belongs to God. Our faith in God leads us to be good administrators in everything we do, and in everything He gives us, to remain focused solely on our vision to reach the lost and the broken-hearted.
Jesus said, “Do not let your hearts be troubled. You believe in God; believe also in me” (John 14:1).
I want to express my heartfelt gratitude to all of you for shaping my understanding of true Christian values and ministerial ethics. During my time in Canada, as I came to know Jesus and spent time with each of you, your lives painted a vivid picture of these guiding principles. With these experiences, I was able to walk alone with God through Jesus. Thank you for being such powerful examples.
Rest assured that our authorities are not causing us trouble. We operate within the framework of what is permitted for our ministry. The Apostle Paul wrote to the Philippians, “And I am certain that God, who began the good work within you, will continue his work until it is finally finished on the day when Jesus Christ returns” (Philippians 1:6 NLT).
What I am trying to say is that whether here or somewhere else, we will continue our work as God has led us to, with increasing faith, confidence and determination. However, the storm has slowed us down in advancing our long-term goal in the country. At the same time, we have grown educationally, professionally, and in partnership with others.
Prayer Request: I would like to encourage everyone to join forces in prayer for our brothers and sisters in Nicaragua who have been affected by recent events. Pray for strength, perseverance, and support during this challenging time. Pray for our protection in the current situation and for our continued studies and ministries. Pray that we will seek God's guidance and wisdom in all areas of our lives. "For where two or three gather together in my name, I am there in the midst of them" (Matthew 18:20) Thank you.
