For us, it is always a joy to share with you the great mercies that the Lord has shown to his people in this Miskito region of Honduras. We thank God that the Covid crisis has diminished considerably, people are returning to their normal lives. In communities and small villages, people live without fear of the virus. 

We know that each country and each person has lived a different pandemic story and each one has had to face their difficulties as best they could, according to God's provision. For the indigenous, marginalized community it was desperate and a very hard blow for almost all families. There were many infected with Covid 19, and with no medical treatment, there were many deaths. 

Our only hospital had no medicines and only a few medical staff who did not respond to the needs of the people. Much of the statistics presented by public health did not report the cases of death in the villages.

In our family, we were severely affected, without exception, we were all infected more than once. We suffered irreparable loss of life: my mother, aunts, cousins, nephews and brothers-in-law - 14 deaths. To this day, many of us still live with the aftermath of Covid 19 in our bodies; such as the permanence of flu and cough, heart problems and high blood pressure. However, we thank God that he has been faithful and has sustained us in the face of this whole situation.

A DIFFICULT TIME OF GRACE.

Quarantine was a time of waiting and despair; people kept to themselves so as not to get sick, but lost hope when they had nothing to eat, and the only solution left to them was to break quarantine in search of food and with it came the contagion. However, it was also the time that people began to cry more to God and as in the time of Israel, the Lord answered. The time of crisis and despair was the time that God had established to bless his people. Through phone calls and with prayers, many expressed their desire to search the Scriptures, such was the enthusiasm that they requested intensive and face-to-face classes. And it was in this way, even in the face of the restrictive measures established for COVID 19, where the churches were closed, that we saw God's will for the inauguration of the WALPA YAMNI BIBLE SEMINARY. 

We are sorry for the accidental death of one of the students; His wife had just had her first baby boy, his wife was hospitalized, she came to buy a medicine prescription and he collided on his motorcycle with a truck and lost his life instantly. It was very sad for everyone.

CHURCH ACTIVITIES

We thank the creator that in this year 2022, all activities in churches throughout the country have returned to normal, although there are threats from the pandemic, we trust God that it will not return. January 17 to 23, Isabel and I were invited to participate in a Synod of the Moravian church in Nicaragua, it was a great blessing.

Isabel, who is in charge of the ministry with women in coordination with the Moravian sisters, has scheduled a general assembly of women from all the Moravian churches of the Moskitia, July 13-17 in the community of Ahuas. A children's retreat for children's ministry is also scheduled to be held in the month of August.

The Lord is always faithful to everyone, and everything He does is perfect. Recently our region faced the threat of the hurricanes Ian and Julia. We all expected the onslaught of the phenomenon, but, at the last minute, on both occasions, God made it change course, although even now many communities are still waterlogged because of the heavy rains that overflowed the rivers. We thank God for his mercy, there were no losses of human life. The new problem we are facing now is that these stationary waters in the villages and rural areas have begun to destroy the crops and this will soon bring hunger to the people. We ask for your prayers.

We are so thankful for the great response to the three big events we ran this summer:

• Pastors' retreat in the city of Puerto Lempira.


• Women's conference in the community of Ahuas


• Children’s event in the community of Paptalaya, 452 children in attendance each event was a very great blessing and an encouragement to see so many participants at each one.

SCHEDULED ACTIVITIES

In February of next year, a team from the Missionary Baptist Church of San José, Costa Rica, will be coming to visit us, they will lead Bible classes with the young people of the local School, on the theme of Values.
