A couple in Mission

By Alejandra and Andrés Rincón

We have known Jacob for almost 25 years now, when we met on a short-term mission between Colombians and Canadians in Toronto in the summer of 2000 when we were all still in our teens. Since that moment we built a brotherly relationship that has lasted over time. Over time Jacob decided to come and live in Colombia as a missionary for a period of no more than 1 or 2 years, and since that moment almost 13 years have passed. During this time he met an intelligent, capable and passionate young woman who at that time was part of the youth group that we both led in our church in Armenia, Colombia. Some time later this young woman (Leidy) became his wife and they began a mission journey together. Jacob and Leidy are a couple who have been united by their mutual love, but beyond that love that is very evident, they have been united by the same sense of urgency to respond to God’s mission, to serve others and to bring his kingdom to earth through their active action in God’s creation.

Around the year 2015 together they felt the call to start doing something about one of the biggest problems that we live in our city, which is pregnancy in adolescent girls, and that is where the El Nido project was born under the umbrella of ZONAJ . It is truly a privilege to serve with both of them, because their love, service, care and kindness inspire all of us around them. At this time they not only serve and direct the El Nido project but also serve as pastors in Reunion Colombia.

Jacob, Leidy and Oliver bless many girls that have little hope and in very difficult conditions, they bless many couples and families in the community, including us.  They are without a doubt a family that accepted the invitation that God gave them to be part of His mission in Latin America.
