New Life for Women - Colombia

Nueva Vida Para Mujeres (New Life for Women) is a drug rehabilitation centre for street women in Bogota, Colombia established over 25 years ago.  The centre is in the process of establishing a new program to rescue young women between the ages of 12 and 18 from life on the streets, providing them with a way out of prostitution, drug addiction and/or homelessness due to family breakdown.  The program will also include an education component so these pre-teens and teens may finish their high school education and find meaningful employment.

The founder of the centre, Alba Nubia Duque Calvo, was herself rescued from prostitution and drug addiction thirty years ago by missionaries who introduced her to Jesus. After Alba became a Christian and overcame her addiction, she heard a call from God to establish the first drug rehab centre for women in Bogota. With God’s help, a donated building, local church help and determination, Alba established Nueva Vida Para Mujeres. An on-site mop making workshop helps provide some income for their programs.

 In the vicinity of the centre, Alba readily identified 20 pre-teens and teens in dire need of help and so far, she has brought four of them into the centre, stretching their resources. Consider coming alongside this project so that it may expand and reach more young women in need of rescue.
