This project reaches out to refugees who are fleeing to Colombia in response to the severe humanitarian crisis in Venezuela. Thousands of Venezuelans are leaving their homes. The Iglesia Principe da Paz (Prince of Peace Church), in the border city of Tachira (El Pinal) hosts this project. They serve food (a hot meal), and provide medication and care for those families and individuals leaving Venezuela on foot. Some of individuals are invited to stay in Venezuela, while others see the church as an “oasis” where they sense God’s love for them. The project involves providing one meal a day, Monday to Friday, to about 200 people, which are mostly families. This project is another good example of the holistic mission God calls His church to accomplish. Yes, our main goal is to share the good news of Jesus, but we should never forget or close our eyes to the huge challenges those around face just in order to survive.
The Iglesia Principe da Paz has an evangelism program and regularly visits the people who are use the soup kitchen. Some of these families already attend church on Sundays. LAM missionaries involved in this project include Joel Garcia (Canadian connection), Pastor Albert Malaguera (supervisor in Venezuela), Jenny Nino, Juan Araque, and Rebeca Rincon (leaders in Venezuela).
