City: Mexico City
John and Tracey Pieters
Since 1999, John and Tracey Pieters, with their daughters, Keila and Kiana, have worked as church planters on the edge of Mexico City–motivating, assisting and equipping Mexicans to start and serve in new congregations.
The Pieters work alongside the “One More for Christ” congregation, a church they helped plant. Their main goal is to raise up and train leaders to help them in planting other churches in their neighbourhood of Los Héroes Tecámac—the largest housing development in all of Latin America.
John works with youth in the community, teaching keyboard and guitar, and motivating them to serve. He also disciples men, meeting weekly to hear about how God is using them in their jobs and family. Tracey, a former director of Avance, oversees the short-term teams from Canada and the U.S. that come to serve. She also assists with women’s and children’s ministry, where she has many opportunities to teach and counsel. Keila and Kiana have been active in their family’s ministry throughout their lives and are currently studying at Christian colleges in the U.S.
