Gwen Rowe
"Mexico lindo y querido" – Mexico beautiful and beloved. After many years of living in Nova Scotia, Canada, Gwen Rowe is back in Mexico with an exciting new purpose. She is teaching grades 4 and 5 at a new international school that opened in Mexico City in August.
BridgeWay North American School is a bilingual school that has been formed to prepare its students for further education in Mexican, Canadian and American universities. Although Mexico City has other high quality, bilingual schools with the same purpose, BridgeWay’s vision is distinct. It is committed to not only a high level of academic instruction, but it will focus on the character formation of each student. It will do this through its five core values: truth, love, community, integrity and creativity. Its students will include the children of missionaries, local Mexicans and expatriates. God willing, a number of these students will become tomorrow’s leaders in Mexico and beyond.
Gwen is from Nova Scotia and was raised in a Christian home, spending some years in Hong Kong and India. She made a commitment to walk daily with her Lord and Saviour when she was thirteen, and she has grown in faith and service of Him continuously since then.
She is an experienced and wonderfully gifted teacher. This has not only been her career for 20 years, but also her ministry. She has also been actively involved in her church and community, serving through music and children’s ministry.
In addition to her B.Ed. from the University of Victoria, Gwen took a year of Christian Studies at Peace River Bible Institute, Alberta, and ESL courses at Trinity Western University, British Columbia.
Gwen’s formal involvement in missions began in 1990 when she did a summer mission in Bolivia with South America Mission. A few years later she returned to minister in Latin America and with the Spearhead program in Mexico City.
Gwen has been married for over 20 years to Abraham Castro, who she initially met while she was participating in the Spearhead program. Abraham was her “Mexican Brother” in the host family she stayed with for the summer!
