John & Tracey Pieters
John and Tracey Pieters work as church planters under Iglesia Bautista “Bet-lehem” and serve other missionaries in the Mexico region as part of the Member Care team of their partner organization, United World Mission (UWM).
Having already served together in Mexico for almost 30 years, their vision is stronger every year: to make disciples, develop leaders and plant churches in the neediest parts of Mexico. With Mexico City’s growing population, the opportunities to share Jesus are endless. They feel excited that God has placed them on the outskirts of Mexico City in the largest housing development in Latin America! The Los Héroes neighborhood where they live has a staggering population of well over 800,000 inhabitants, 90% of whom have never had a chance to respond to the Gospel.
Having turned their most recent church, “Uno Más en Cristo,” over to a national pastor in April 2023, they are now working with a new team of Mexican adults and youth to begin a church in the “Jardines” sector of Los Héroes. Their target audience could be described as the “urban agnostics”, young families who populate these low-cost houses and apartments and often commute into Mexico City for work. Unlike their parents’ generation, they do not identify themselves with any church or religious tradition. They are a “lost” generation looking for something to give hope and a future.
Their goals over the next few years are: 1) to evangelize and disciple new contacts in “Jardines” as the foundation for a new church plant, 2) to develop five new Mexican leaders to plant churches in each of the sections that form the Los Héroes community, 3) To partner with short-term teams from Canada and the US for broader outreach.
If you or a group from your church or college want to come and join them for any period of time from a few days to a couple of months, please contact us at jtpieters@latinamericamission.org and we’d love to chat!
