The Pieters live in Los Héroes Tecámac, Estado de Mėxico (on the northern edge of Mexico City). They work with Church planting (under Iglesia Bautista “Bet-lehem”) and the Mexico Regional Leadership for United World Mission (UWM).
Having already served together in Mexico for over 25 years, our vision to make disciples, to develop leaders and plant churches in the neediest parts of Mexico is stronger every year. With Mexico City’s growing population, the possibilities to share Jesus are endless. We feel excited that God has placed us on the outskirts of Mexico City in the largest housing development in Latin America! The Los Héroes neighborhood where we live has a staggering population of well over 800,000 inhabitants, 90% of whom have never had a chance to respond to the Gospel.
We have already planted one church in Los Hėroes (“Uno Más en Cristo”) and through it we disciple others to reach out to new areas. Our target audience could be described as the “urban agnostics”, young families who populate these low-cost homes and often commute into Mexico City for work. Unlike their parents’ generation, they do not identify themselves with any church nor with the once-pervasive Catholic tradition. They are a “lost” generation looking for something to give hope and a future.
Through our partnership with Latin America Mission (Canada) and United World Mission, we are able to be an influence through both our local church planting ministry and now as Mexico Regional Leaders for UWM. Together we are investing in the lives of leaders and missionaries to help catalyze church planting, especially in the urban centers of Mexico.
Our goals over the next few years are to 1) develop five new Mexican leaders to plant churches in each of the sections that form the Los Héroes community, 2) open up two new urban hubs in Mexico focused on unreached populations and 3) partner with teams from Canada and the US for broader outreach.
God has abundantly provided for our ministry needs for many decades but we are currently seeking 10 new families to partner with us through prayer and giving to cover support that has dropped off or will soon end.
