David and Esther Bettney

Medellín, Colombia

Dave and Esther Bettney, along with their children, Grace and Zach, have recently moved to Medellín, Colombia. In Medellín, Esther is conducting her PhD research, focused on working alongside public and private schools in engaging in new ways to approach multilingual teaching and learning. Dave has been focused on helping their family get settled in a new country and is trusting that God will open up new doors to serve the community.

Dave and Esther have served with LAM for almost all of their married lives. From 2006-2017, they lived in Siguatepeque, Honduras, where they served at Comunidad Educativa Evangélica. In Honduras, Dave used his background as a carpenter to oversee various building projects at the school, as well as be involved with community projects, including well repair with Water Ambassadors Canada. Esther served in various capacities at the school, first as a high school teacher and then overseeing the school’s English program.

In 2017, Dave and Esther relocated to Madison, Wisconsin, where Esther began her PhD at the University of Wisconsin. During their time in Wisconsin, God began to open doors for their family to return to Latin America. Right now, they are praying for strength and grace as they transition to living in Colombia and for wisdom as they consider their next steps upon the completion of Esther’s PhD.
